The first verse in this list of bible verses about God’s unconditional love is Romans 5:8. Below is the verse quoted in NKJ, NLT and AMP.
But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners.
But God clearly shows and proves His own love for us, by the fact that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
This is the greatest demonstration of God’s unconditional love for us. We are used to people showing us love for a specific reason. People may love us because we are beautiful, handsome, influential, or for other reasons.
But God’s love is different. Instead of waiting for us to become better, He demonstrated His love by dying for us. He would have put pre-condition for dying for us. Instead, He died for us and then offer us a choice to accept Him or not.
If you are already a follower of Christ, this should encourage you – you have a Father that accepted and still accepts you as you are. Hallelujah! However, if you are not a Christian yet, wouldn’t you rather sign up with this God?
Taking the second spot in my list of bible verses about God’s unconditional love is Psalm 86:15. Below is the verse quoted in NKJ, NLT and AMP.
But You, O Lord, are a God full of compassion, and gracious, Longsuffering and abundant in mercy and truth.
But you, O Lord, are a God of compassion and mercy, slow to get angry and filled with unfailing love and faithfulness.
But You, O Lord, are a God [who protects and is] merciful and gracious, Slow to anger and abounding in lovingkindness and truth.
To understand Psalm 86:15, you need to start from verse 14.
15 But you, O Lord, are a God of compassion and mercy, slow to get angry and filled with unfailing love and faithfulness.
David wrote some of these Psalms when he was in danger. Your situation may be slightly different from David’s but it is still as dire, desperate and severe – bills are due but to money to pay them or a loved one is sick and fighting for their life. If, like David you find yourself in a desperate situation, you can cry out to the Lord:
“Even though I am overwhelmed now, You, O Lord are compassionate and gracious…help me!”
Compassion means that God feels your pain – He feels exactly what you are feeling right now. This should give you great comfort!
No 3 in eBibleguide’s list of bible verses about God’s unconditional love is Zephaniah 3:17. Below is the verse quoted in NKJ, NLT and AMP.
The Lord your God in your midst, The Mighty One, will save; He will rejoice over you with gladness, He will quiet you with His love, He will rejoice over you with singing.
For the Lord your God is living among you. He is a mighty savior. He will take delight in you with gladness. With his love, he will calm all your fears. He will rejoice over you with joyful songs.
The Lord your God is in your midst, A Warrior who saves. He will rejoice over you with joy; He will be quiet in His love [making no mention of your past sins], He will rejoice over you with shouts of joy.
Following up from my comments in the last verse, despite your desperate situation, God is mighty to save – He is able to deliver you from your current unpleasant situation.
Allow Him to quiet you with His love. And even before the physical manifestations of your victory, because He knows the end from the beginning, “he will rejoice over you with singing” – isn’t this amazing!
Rejoice in His love, celebrate in the situation – He is able and willing to deliver you and He will deliver you! Amen!
The number 4 verse in this list of Bible verses about God’s unconditional love is Nehemiah 9:17. Below is the verse quoted in NKJ, NLT and AMP.
They refused to obey, and they were not mindful of Your wonders that You did among them. But they hardened their necks, And in their rebellion. They appointed a leader to return to their bondage. But You are God, ready to pardon, gracious and merciful, slow to anger, abundant in kindness, and did not forsake them.
They refused to obey and did not remember the miracles you had done for them. Instead, they became stubborn and appointed a leader to take them back to their slavery in Egypt. But you are a God of forgiveness, gracious and merciful, slow to become angry, and rich in unfailing love. You did not abandon them.
They refused to listen and obey, and did not remember Your wondrous acts which You had performed among them; so they stiffened their necks and [in their rebellion] appointed a leader in order to return them to slavery in Egypt. But You are a God of forgiveness, gracious and merciful and compassionate, slow to anger and abounding in lovingkindness; and You did not abandon them.
Sometimes we think it is our sin that is causing our pain – how untrue! Though sometimes, our mistakes can cause us pain. However, it has nothing to do with God’s forgiveness. Sin has been taking care of by Jesus. God is a forgiving God.
He is compassionate, gracious, and very very very slow to get angry. He does not punish as we humans do. No, His love is Unconditional!
Jesus took your pain to the cross, left it there and handed freedom to you, unconditionally, no strings attached! This is the GOSPEL and it is too good to be true! But IT IS TRUE! Your salvation is FREE!
Finally, Isaiah 54:10 takes the 5th spot in the list of Bible verses about God’s unconditional love (definitely not the least!). Below is the verse quoted in NKJ, NLT and AMP.
“For the mountains shall depart and the hills be removed, but My kindness shall not depart from you, nor shall My covenant of peace be removed,” Says the Lord, who has mercy on you.
“For the mountains may move and the hills disappear, but even then my faithful love for you will remain. My covenant of blessing will never be broken,” says the Lord, who has mercy on you.
“For the mountains may be removed and the hills may shake, but My lovingkindness will not be removed from you, nor will My covenant of peace be shaken,” Says the Lord who has compassion on you.
If up till this point you are not yet convinced that God loves you unconditionally, this verse should do it for you. As I write this post, the world is in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic. The foundation of the world is literally shaken.
But here is the good news: The Lord says “even though the very core of your life is shaken. Even though every other thing that gave you assurances has been removed” (paraphrased), “yet my unfailing love for you will not be shaken nor my covenant of peace be removed…”. How reassuring!
God is concerned about your fears. He knows and feels the challenges you face. He truly does. To give you assurance, he says that even though the world around you seem to be caving in, my love for you will NEVER cave in. Please hold on to this.
I will end this post with a song:
Here is the song from YouTube. Bask in God’s love!
