The first verse in my Bible verses about God’s love is John 3:16. Below is the verse quoted in NKJ, NLT and AMP.

New King James (NKJ)
For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.
New Living Translation (NLT)
For this is how God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.
Amplified Bible (AMP)
For God so [greatly] loved and dearly prized the world, that He [even] gave His [One and] only begotten Son, so that whoever believes and trusts in Him [as Savior] shall not perish, but have eternal life.

Life Applications

This scripture has a lot of applications but I will discuss 2. Firstly, God’s love for you is so strong that he left His throne and came down to save you. This should put a smile on your face – I believe that if it was only you in the world, God would have come for you!

This scripture also shows us how love leads to giving. God’s love for us led Him to give His only Son, Jesus. If you love someone, you will be willing to give them valuable things. You will not withhold anything from them. You will not lie to them. One way to demonstrate love is the willingness to give.

1 John 4:19 is the second verse in my list of Bible verses about God’s love. Below is the verse quoted in NKJ, NLT and AMP.

New King James (NKJ)
We love Him because He first loved us.
New Living Translation (NLT)
We love each other because he loved us first.
Amplified Bible (AMP)
We love, because He first loved us.

Life Applications

This is a very short verse that could easily be misinterpreted. However, by reading the 3 versions of the scripture listed above it becomes easy to see that we receive our ability to love from God. On the extreme of human weakness, we lack the ability to love.

Here is the good news: by receiving God’s love, we learn to love other people. Part of “receiving God’s love” is actually taking time to understand it. But to understand it, you have to think deeply about that love. If you refer to the first scripture quoted in this post, you see that God’s love for you is so deep that He was willing to send His only Son to save you. Take a moment to think about this!

Accepting this unconditional love from the Almighty God prepares you to share the same love with others. In a world where love is deeply lacking, I believe we need to share more of this love. But, to be able to share the love, you have to first receive it from God.

Coming 3rd in my list of Bible verses about God’s love is 1 John 3:1. Below is the verse quoted in NKJ, NLT and AMP.

New King James (NKJ)
Behold what manner of love the Father has bestowed on us, that we should be called children of God! Therefore the world does not know us, because it did not know Him.
New Living Translation (NLT)
See how very much our Father loves us, for he calls us his children, and that is what we are! But the people who belong to this world don’t recognize that we are God’s children because they don’t know him.
Amplified Bible (AMP)
See what an incredible quality of love the Father has shown to us, that we would [be permitted to] be named and called and counted the children of God! And so we are! For this reason the world does not know us, because it did not know Him.

Life Applications

This scripture emphasizes the quality of God’s love for us that permitted us to be called God’s children. John 1:12 talks about how accepting Jesus gives us the right to become God’s children:

Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God

God’s love for us made him come for us. He loved us before we knew He existed. However, if we accept that love, it gives us the full right to be adopted into God’s family – and we can be called His children. How amazing is this!

The second part of 1 John 3:1 talks about why there may be rejection around us today – because so many people do not recognize God. But, this should not bother you because as far as you recognize that God’s love for you has qualified you to be called His child, you can easily deal with rejection.

Taking the 4th spot in my list of Bible verses about God’s love is 1 John 4:16. Below is the verse quoted in NKJ, NLT and AMP.

New King James (NKJ)
And we have known and believed the love that God has for us. God is love, and he who abides in love abides in God, and God in him.
New Living Translation (NLT)
We know how much God loves us, and we have put our trust in his love. God is love, and all who live in love live in God, and God lives in them.
Amplified Bible (AMP)
We have come to know [by personal observation and experience], and have believed [with deep, consistent faith] the love which God has for us. God is love, and the one who abides in love abides in God, and God abides continually in him.

Life Applications

This scripture begins by saying that “We know how much God loves us“. The Amplified version says “We have come to knowand have believed“. One common theme about the scriptures shared in this post is the need for us “to know”, “understand” and “acknowledge” God’s love for us.

Knowing, understanding and acknowledging God’s love is a process. As you experience Him, you come to know Him. The more you know Him, the more you accept the extent of His love for you.

As this knowledge increases in you, God’s kind of love begins to live more in you. The result? You begin to “live in love” and begin to depend on His love more and more.

I encourage you not to give up on yourself. Developing God’s kind of Love is a process. It takes time. But, you have to find ways to live in His Word (like you are doing now!).

Finally, at no 5 of my list of Bible verses about God’s love is John 15:13. Below is the verse quoted in NKJ, NLT and AMP.

New King James (NKJ)
Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends.
New Living Translation (NLT)
There is no greater love than to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.
Amplified Bible (AMP)
No one has greater love [nor stronger commitment] than to lay down his own life for his friends.

Life Applications

Jesus wouldn’t have put it in better words. I started this list of Bible verses about God’s love with John 3:16. In that section, I said that one way to demonstrate love is your willingness to give. In John 15:13, Jesus emphasizes His love for us by confirming that He was willing to die for us – He eventually did!

This is the greatest demonstration of love – willingness to lay down your life for a friend. Jesus demonstrated His strong commitment to us and our friendship with Him, by His willingness to die for us. He loved you enough to have died for you. Isn’t it amazing!

Accept His love and share it!
