Focus Bible Verse: Matthew 24:30 (NLT)
Today’s devotional examines why, at Jesus’ return, there will be deep mourning among all the eath. To give context to our focus verse for today (Matthew 24:30), let’s read some verses before and after the focus verse.
28 Just as the gathering of vultures shows there is a carcass nearby, so these signs indicate that the end is near.
29 Immediately after the anguish of those days, the sun will be darkened,
the moon will give no light, the stars will fall from the sky, and the powers in the heavens will be shaken.
30 And then at last, the sign that the Son of Man is coming will appear in the heavens, and there will be deep mourning among all the peoples of the earth. And they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.
31 And he will send out his angels with the mighty blast of a trumpet, and they will gather his chosen ones from all over the world—from the farthest ends of the earth and heaven.
32 “Now learn a lesson from the fig tree. When its branches bud and its leaves begin to sprout, you know that summer is near.

As my vision continued that night, I saw someone like a son of man coming with the clouds of heaven. He approached the Ancient One and was led into his presence
Life Lessons and Actions for Today
Based on Matthew 24:30 and all the reference verses above, here are the lessons and actions for today’s devotional:
A sentence in the focus Bible verse for today’s devotional caught my attention – there will be deep mourning among all the peoples of the earth.
I started thinking, “why will there be mourning when Jesus returns?”. I couldn’t wrap my head around it. In my mind, Jesus’c coming is supposed to make people happy and excited.
Then, I read the Amplified version of Matthew 24:30 (in part):
“…then all the tribes of the earth [and especially Israel] will mourn [regretting their rebellion and rejection of the Messiah]“
There! That is my answer. The people that will mourn are those that heard about Jesus but rejected Him.
This verse describes it as “deep mourning”. People will be filled with regrets. Unfortunately, by that time it will be too late.
This is the time to accept Jesus as Lord and Savior. By the time He returns, it will be too late!
